Ever wonder what landscapers do in the Winter when there is snow on the ground?
Contrary to popular belief, installing plants and other warm weather services are only a small part of what we do. We have been fortunate the last couple of years here in Colorado, that we have been able to keep working on landscaping projects with only a week or two of really bad bitter cold weather in between. As long as the ground isn’t frozen we can still prep and install patios, as well as build decks and pergolas.
Want to know a secret. Ok, it isn’t really a secret, but more of a little known fact.
One thing we like to do in the colder months is sharpen up our carpentry skills. We have a handful of amazing clients who order raised garden beds to be built over the Winter. Dave and the guys will crank up the heaters and fireplace in the shop, and get to work constructing the boxes so they are ready to go in the ground come Spring. Our clients will spend the Winter dreaming, planning, and even starting their tender lettuces and seeds inside early. When Spring starts to peek out, we deliver the boxes and prep the space in and around the beds. A cultivated mix of soil and irrigation are added along with a custom built trellis for peas and beans if requested, and they are ready to be planted up.
Another product we have added in this year are sliding reclaimed barn wood doors. Since Summit is located in an old dairy farm, we have been playing around building doors, beds, and even picture frames with some of the old materials we have found down in the corral. We have gotten a good response back and they have been fun to build and install both indoors and out.
