One of the questions we get asked often in our business is, “What the heck is hardscaping anyway?”

It is often followed up with, “Do you hate plants?”

So, just “what the heck is hardscaping anyway?”

As seen on the back of our tool trailers, we define hardscaping to be: “the placement of non-plant elements such as paver patios, driveways, and lighting in a planned outdoor area.”

Hardscaping is essentially landscaping, but without the plants.

Our hardscape crew, and even our landscape/irrigation foreman are landscape industry certified hardscapers. They are certified through NALP and ICPI and maintain their certification year after year with ongoing continuing education and training. We are always learning!

As a company, Summit is an Authorized Belgard Contractor. In a nutshell, this means Belgard trusts us to install their quality products according to a strict set of standards.

Summit offers hardscaping services from the ground up. We start with the soil and work through any drainage or irrigation system changes. Then move on to building the paver patio and any retaining walls. From there we place any elements and features such as fire pits, fireplaces, and outdoor BBQ’s and kitchens on top of the patio. Pergolas and shade structures with cafe lights that hang above sit atop the newly constructed outdoor living space. Voila, a relaxing outdoor retreat and a place to entertain your guests.

It doesn’t have to stop there. Bocce ball courts, raised planting beds, paver driveways with radiant heat, lighting, water features, and dry creek beds are all hardscape elements too.

While we don’t “hate” plants and trees, (we definitely plant our fair share of them during our full scale landscape renovations and from scratch new construction landscapes), we just happen to LOVE installing hardscape elements, and are pretty good at it!
